Volunteering

If you would like to become part of a friendly, exciting volunteer team here at the Palace, enhancing the visitor experience, bringing history to life, supporting and encouraging learning for all and maintaining beautiful gardens then take a look below at our current volunteer vacancies.

Volunteering at The Bishop’s Palace is a great way to meet new friends, enjoy different experiences and get involved with one of Somerset’s ‘must-see’ heritage destinations. Volunteers also receive a 10% discount in the Palace shop and other benefits.

We are always looking for volunteer support so please do contact Anneli Connold, Volunteer Co-ordinator, 01749 988111 x202 (Wed – Fri) even if we do not have anything listed below.

Thank you for your interest.

Volunteer Welcomer

•Are you an excellent communicator?
•Have a great personality that draws people to you?
•Looking for a rewarding and exciting volunteering experience this year?
•Then we would love to hear from you!

We’re looking for Welcomers to join our Visitor Services Department from February 2012. The Bishop’s Palace re-opens on Saturday 11th February and visitors will be able to experience a new café called ‘The Bishop’s Table’, a new shop and visitor centre, learning room and new areas within the gardens.

Coupled with multi-media guides, Palace Water Walks and a full and varied events programme aimed at a number of different audiences, 2012 at the Palace offers fantastic opportunities for volunteering.

Purpose of the Welcomer

• To welcome all visitors, including those that come in to visit and those that stop just for a quick look.  It is an introduction to the Palace, a chance to answer any questions from visitors and tell them more of what they can expect to see and do on their visit, including any special events and exhibitions.
• To ensure that visitors have a valid ticket for entry to the Palace and Gardens.
• The Welcomer role is an essential part of increasing visitor footfall throughout the year to both ticketed and free areas.
