Learning at the Palace

The Bishop’s Palace welcomes families and school groups to enjoy nature’s classroom and inspire a lifelong love of learning. Whatever the weather there’s lots to see and do both inside the Palace itself and outside in the fresh air within 14 acres of stunning gardens.

Families

Regular Family Fun days at the Palace are supported by a trained Learning Team who help families with hands-on activities that are free with admission. There’s lots to see, smell, hear and do at the Palace. Children try and spot the Bishop, who lives on site, going about his work or Maisie the Palace cat. Children can have fun finding a willow dragon sculpture lurking in the arboretum area with plenty of space to run free and picnic.

‘Bishop Jocelin’s Dragon Hunt’ is a new Family trail featuring the willow dragon. Jocelin was the first Bishop of Bath and Wells who lived in the Palace and, according to legend, slew a dragon to protect local people! This full colour trail has been specially commissioned and takes children through animal highlights around the Palace rooms and garden.
